Taipei City Revenue Service stated that in order to continuously encourage the public to use low-polluting vehicles, support domestic electric vehicle-related industries, establish an environment with sustainable development, and achieve the goal of energy conservation and carbon reduction, the city’s electric vehicle license tax exemption period has been extended to December 31, 2025.

Pursuant to Article 5 of the Amended Vehicle License Tax Act promulgated on December 30, 2021, the municipality and county (city) governments may exempt vehicle license tax for motor vehicles powered entirely by electrical energy during the following periods. In cooperation with this amendment, the city has announced the extension of the tax exemption period to December 31, 2025.
1. All-electric cars: from January 6, 2012 to December 31, 2025.
2. All-electric motorcycles: from January 1, 2018 to December 31, 2025.

Taipei City Revenue Service expressed that if the public purchase a motor vehicle completely powered by electrical energy and the vehicle’s registration address is in Taipei City, the department will take the initiative to extend the tax-free period without requiring the public to apply for it.
