Mayor Chiang implemented fiscal discipline, Taipei City Government(TCG) has reduced debt by NT$7.4 billion in 2023.
Mayor Chiang implemented not only fiscal discipline but also The Public Debt Act and repaid debts after taking office. Following the repayment of the 4.8 billion in the first half of 2023, the TCG continually implemented debt repayment by reducing the amount of 2.6 billion debt in August 2023. The TCG has totally reduced the amount of 7.4 billion debt during 2023. The amount of outstanding debt was reduced from NT$89.8 billion to NT$82.4 billion after Mayor Chiang took office at the end of 2022. The per capita debt also decreased from NT$36,000 to NT$33,000. It is estimated that the savings of debt interest will be about NT$74 million in 2023. You Shih-ming, the commissioner of the Department of Finance, expressed that TCG would continue to examine the annual revenue collection under The Public Debt Act, and hold on to the income increase and expenditure reduction of fiscal discipline in order to further enhance interest expense savings.
