Moving Grants of Taipei City’s Dormitory will be lapsed from January 1, 2019

On August 1st, 2003, Taipei City Government (TCG) enacted "Taipei City Self-Government Ordinance for Municipal Dormitory Processing”, as the law of the TCG agencies to deal with municipal dormitories. However, the deadline of the moving grants dispensing isn’t specified by law, the legal residents wait and see recently, which makes TCG recover dormitories more difficult. After the review, TCG proposed the 20th amendment, which will be lapsed from January 1st, 2019. Taipei City Council passed the third reading of draft amendments on the 4th meeting of the 18th extraordinary meeting of the 12th session, June 27th, 2018.

"Taipei City Self-Government Ordinance for Municipal Dormitory Processing" has taken effect for more than 14 years. Initially, there are more than 2,000 municipal dormitories need to be recovered by TCG, and as of May, 2018, there are a bit more than 400 municipal dormitories remaining. The scheduled milestone is completed. In order to reduce the impact of the invalidation from January 1st, 2019, the dormitory management agencies will notify the legal residents that the amendment was passed, and the moving grants won't be dispensed form 2019, so that, the residents can evaluate whether they will return the dormitories or not.

The Department of Finance (DoF) indicated that if the legal residents have the willingness to return the dormitories, TCG will ask management agencies to speed up the process for assisting the residents return them and apply for moving grants. As for the legal residents have no intention of moving, they can still live in the dormitories until TCG has the plan for the dormitories, but the residents can't apply for moving grants.
