DOF's Outstanding Performance in Cracking Down on Illegal Tobacco and Alcohol in 2023 Is Rated as Excellent by Ministry of Finance.

On February 20, 2025, the Ministry of Finance held the "Illegal Tobacco and Alcohol Crackdown Conference" where the Taipei City Government’s Department of Finance (DOF) was awarded an excellent rating for the outstanding performance in the 2023 evaluation.

The annual conference was presided over by the political deputy minister of Minister of Finance Juan, Ching-Hwa. In addition to inviting representatives from National Treasury Administration, Customs Administration, Taxation Administration, and the five regional National Taxation Bureau offices, the conference also extended invitations to relevant enforcement agencies such as the Coast Guard Administration under the Ocean Affairs Council, as well as representatives from the tobacco and alcohol authorities of civil governments. The main objectives of this conference include refining future strategies for combating illegal tobacco and alcohol and recognizing organizations that achieved outstanding results in the 2023 evaluation. In this evaluation, DOF received an excellent rating and was awarded a 500,000 NTD grant to support future efforts in combating illegal tobacco and alcohol.

Commissioner of the DOF, Hu, Hsiao-Lan, indicated that, as Taipei City is a metropolitan area without ports or coastlines, it is less likely to seize large amount of illegal tobacco and alcohol; however, the officers of DOF work tirelessly, conducting inspections to enhance the effectiveness of cracking down on illegal tobacco and alcohol. In the future, DOF will put the efforts on collaborating with relevant agencies to increase the seizure of illegal tobacco and alcohol, thereby safeguarding public health.
